En Route pour la Vie Parisienne

My name is Anna-Lena Kersting, I am a German “Referendar” meaning I am currently undertaking my postgraduate legal traineeship. I am three months away from completing my second state exam and being fully qualified. After an internship last summer 2011 at Pusch Wahlig Legal in Berlin I was kindly offered the opportunity by Mr. Pusch and Mr. Kress from Flichy Grangé Avocats in Paris to spend two and half months as an intern in the Parisian office of Flichy Grangé.

This adventure started on the 2nd July 2012. I was very warmly welcomed by Mr. Kress and introduced to the office. The office of Flichy Grangé Avocats is installed in the heart of Paris, just a five minute walk away from the Champs Elysée and the Arc de Triomphe, an impressive and very busy district! The first week was spent gaining an insight into the French Labour Law. Having some recollection from an introductory class I attended at university, I was surprised to find out that despite some differences in detail, the system of values in French and German Labour Law is quite similar. Still, working on cases in a different legal system is quite a challenge, but the Flichy lawyers as well as my fellow French interns proved to be very understanding and helpful with regard to my many questions.

Apart from legal issues, I soon found out that Paris offers so much distraction in every imaginable aspect that without doubt I will be very busy discovering the city and getting a good dose of “la vie parisienne” to make most of my stay.
